Greece man arrested after police say he started a fire at Dewey Avenue Walmart

 

GREECE, N.Y. — A 25-year-old man is facing charges after Greece Police say he intentionally started a fire at the Walmart on Dewey Avenue.

Jamel Wright is charged with arson, reckless endangerment, and criminal mischief.

Police say the fire happened on July 2 at around 11 a.m. Before emergency crews got there, police say store employees successfully put out the fire. The building was evacuated as a precaution.

Responding officers found a man that matched the description of the suspect outside the store and took him into custody. Wright was brought to the Greece Police Headquarters for processing and later brought to the Monroe County Jail.

According to police, there were no reported injuries, but there was some damage within the store. The store was closed to the public after the fire.
