ROCHESTER, N.Y. — News10NBC’s Declan Stablow was in Rochester tracking damage and speaking with people impacted by the storms after today’s Yellow Alert ended.
At the intersection of Darien Street and West Avenue, cars slowed down to navigate flooding that covered the roadway. One driver turned around to avoid the area entirely.
A downed tree in London-Paris Sanders’ backyard on Flint Street caused damage to neighboring properties. Sanders was inside when the storm hit.
“All of a sudden I heard the wind go through with the thunder. And I happened to look into my pantry. That’s when I seen the tree tilting over the gate and went down,” Sanders said.
No one was hurt, but the tree damaged one neighboring house and knocked out power at another. Sanders had planned to mow the lawn but decided against it when the storm rolled in.
“It could have been a lot worse. Or I just think the way it went over the gate where nobody was outside because I was just about to cut my grass and when I heard that, you know, thunder coming through, I said, no, I’m not going to even go out and cut it,” Sanders said.
A tree limb also came down in Jeanna Hibbert’s backyard on Wilton Terrace. Hibbert and her family were not home when it happened.
“Coming from the assembly and we pulled into the driveway see this big limb on the ground so we have the to back out and called the fire department,” Hibbert said.
The fire department responded quickly. Hibbert did not lose power and was thankful the branch missed her garage and no one was hurt.
