ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A Yellow Alert remains up through 8PM for another round of high heat. The good news is this is short-lived and not as intense as our last heat wave. The dew points aren’t nearly as sultry as last time, and the heat will ease up starting this evening. Temperatures will slide back from the mid 90s into the 80s as the evening goes on, and the Yellow Alert will be dropped. Until then, just give yourself a break if working outdoors and drink a little more water than you normally would. Heat can sometimes sneak up on you, so just make sure you’re listening to your body.

It’ll be a warm and breezy night, with temperatures only dropping into the lower 70s, but breeze will tend to ease after midnight. Skies remain partly cloudy overnight. Wednesday will be another warm, but not hot day, as temperatures hold in the upper 80s. We’ll be keeping an eye to the sky, not for storms, but for some wildfire smoke that’ll be making a return to the area. These are from fires burning in southwest Ontario, Canada and northern Minnesota. The air pattern aloft will carry some of this smoke into western New York on Wednesday and possibly Thursday. There are some signs that some of this thicker smoke may also make it down to the surface, which could be problematic for those who are sensitive to fine particles in the air.

Aside from the smoke, our weather will be warm and quiet on Wednesday. Highs should hold in the mid to upper 80s, despite the thicker smoke. It’ll be a little breezy, but not as windy as Tuesday was. Thursday may also see some smoke making its way through the area, before pushing south by Friday and into the weekend.
