First Alert Weather: Dealing with widespread rain and breezy winds south from Isaias remnants today

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Today we’ll be seeing widespread rain that once upon a time was Hurricane Isaias… No big impacts from this rain however, despite that fact. There is uncertainty as per the arrival time of rain as there is still some dry air near the surface in Rochester and the western Finger Lakes, causing some of that rain to evaporate as it pushes north. Things will likely turn wet for the region as a whole by late this morning, staying rainy through the afternoon and evening before tapering off overnight. Heaviest rain will be falling southeast towards Yates County, where 0.5-0.75″ is likely. Closer to Rochester and the Niagara Frontier, 0.1-0.25″ is more likely. Breezy winds with gusts up to 30-35 MPH will continue over the hilltops of the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes until calming down this evening.

Overnight temps will get down to the mid and upper 50s amid cloudy skies, which continue for tomorrow morning. Clouds break apart for the afternoon as temps rebound to mild status, up to around 70 degrees. Winds will be light, making for overall a very enjoyable Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

Tuesday a cold front will approach from the north, which will scrape up some muggy air and cause some showers with possible thunderstorms. There is uncertainty about the timing and impacts of any storms, so stay tuned for updates. Following the cold front comes cooler but sunnier weather Wednesday and Thursday. Next weekend is looking much cooler…
