First Alert Weather: A wild ride in our weather over the next 48 hours

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – We’re pretty much getting it all over the next 48 hours. Rain, wind, thunder, mild temps, cold temps, snow, sunshine, frost. Just your average fall weekend in Western New York, no? We’ll keep it Green on the Threat Tracker, however, as even though there will be nasty weather, it won’t be dangerous or too impactful.

A strong low pressure system is to blame for all this. Along a warm front comes temps up to near 70 degrees, breezy winds, rain showers, and a chance of thunderstorms for the morning. Severe thunderstorms are not expected but they could bring a gusty wind with them (separate from the already gusty background wind). This afternoon a cold front will then pass through, dropping our temps to the mid 50s by 4pm, as well as bringing more rain showers and a gusty wind up to 35 MPH. Temperatures continue to drop overnight while it stays a bit breezy, and by tomorrow morning it will be cold enough that we’ll likely see some wet snowflakes mixing with rain down in the higher elevations of the FLX and Southern Tier. No accumulation is expected, but if you do see it, it’ll be on vegetation only and won’t last long.

Temps Saturday will climb to the mid and upper 40s as skies clear beautifully for the afternoon. Winds will calm down as well, making for a great crisp fall day overall. Definitely sweater weather however!

Skies stay clear and winds stay light Saturday night, which means it’ll get even colder. Sunday morning we’re waking up to temperatures in the mid 30s, causing some frost, especially farther south. The wind chill will be in the upper 20s to low 30s… Yikes. But the rest of Sunday looks good with sunny skies and temps peaking in the upper 50s.

Pretty much all of next week looks great… Huge upper level ridge sets up over the US which will keep us dry, sunny, and mild Monday through Friday. Perfect weather to get outside and enjoy the fall foliage. Colors will be peaking in the Southern Tier through this time, with Rochester reaching peak color by late this month.

Stay tuned for updates!
