When FBI Director Kash Patel thanked his agents for their work on the case, he mentioned agents in the Buffalo field office.
“The FBI Salt Lake field office along with our offices in L.A., Phoenix, Denver, San Antonio, Las Vegas, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, our headquarters component in Quantico, all participate in the FBI,” Patel said.
The FBI has identified a suspect in Kirk’s murder as a 22-year-old man from Utah.

News10NBC Chief Investigative Reporter Berkeley Brean went to the FBI office in Rochester, which is part of the Buffalo field office, to learn more about the local connection to the case.
“The FBI in Buffalo told me this: ‘As this is not a FBI Buffalo led investigation, I cannot confirm or comment further,’” Brean said. “It is not uncommon for the FBI to use many of its field offices in a major investigation like the one into the murder of Charlie Kirk. And the Buffalo office has unique experience with a mass shooting and public figure attacks. It handled the Tops mass murder several years ago. And then it handled the attack on author Salman Rushdie.”
Brean also tried to track down several leads on possible family connections to the alleged shooter in Utah. We continue to work on that part of the story.
