HENRIETTA, N.Y. — It is the end of an era, as Marketplace Mall in Henrietta officially closes Wednesday.
On Tuesday night, the final two stores were packing their things up. Stores with exterior exits will stay open, but stores inside of the mall will be gutted and repurposed.
Stores with interior exits in the mall will be moved to other Wilmorite properties, which is the same property that owns the mall.

Mary Meyer remembers when the mall first opened.
“It was pretty exciting because they had so many stores and you could come here and just kind of get everything done. It used to be I went downtown to get all my Christmas shopping done but then of course when this mall opened, that’s where all the Christmas shopping occurred,” said Meyer.
The mall opened in 1982. A decade ago, it was busy. But then changes started. Bonton closed in 2013. An outlet mall idea in 2016 didn’t happen. Macy’s closed in 2017, and Dicks moved out recently.
Places with outdoor entrances such as Floor & Decor, Dave and Busters, the Go-Kart race track and J.C. Penney, will remain open. Only stores with entrances in the mall will be closing.
