IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — A student at Eastridge High School will be facing disciplinary action after the East Irondequoit Central School District says the student had a BB gun and an ‘inoperable taser’ in their backpack.
The district says the school got a call Monday morning from a parent reporting that their child may have a BB gun in their backpack from the weekend.
School officials responded, found the student, and got the BB gun and taser, according to the district. The district says the Irondequoit Police Department was contacted right away.
The items were turned over to law enforcement. The district says the BB gun and taser weren’t removed from the backpack before administrative intervention, and there was no threat to students or staff.

“This morning at Eastridge High School, administrators received a call from a parent reporting that their child may have had a BB gun in their backpack from the weekend. School officials responded immediately, located the student, and safely secured and retrieved the item, as well as an inoperable taser, from the student’s backpack.
The Irondequoit Police Department was contacted right away. The items were turned over to law enforcement, and the matter is being handled in accordance with the law. The student will also face disciplinary action consistent with the District’s Code of Conduct.
At no time were the items removed from the backpack prior to administrative intervention, and there was no threat to students or staff.
The situation was addressed quickly and without incident, thanks to prompt communication and strong relationships among students, families, and staff.
As part of ongoing safety efforts, the District will be installing a weapons detection system at the high school this summer to provide an additional layer of security. The District remains committed to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for all students and staff.”
