HENRIETTA, N.Y. — A student at the Rochester Institute of Technology is facing charges after being accused of putting a hidden recording device in a residence hall bathroom at the school.
Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies say they learned about it on Sept. 18 when RIT Public Safety found it. Deputies say they took the device, and investigators started looking into it.
Investigators say the device was set up on Sept. 16. With help from RIT Public Safety, investigators identified the suspect as Avery Bird, 19, of Massachusetts.
Bird was arrested Tuesday and charged with unlawful surveillance. He was brought to the Monroe County Jail for arraignment.
The investigation is still open as deputies try to identify all the victims.
According to an email sent to News10NBC by two RIT students, school leaders are working to notify people who may be affected and connect them with any resources.
We reached out to RIT for comment, but haven’t heard back yet. Check back later for any updates as we continue to follow this story.
