Deputies: Inmate dies after being found unresponsive in Monroe County Jail cell

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Deputies say an inmate died after being found unresponsive in a cell at the Monroe County Jail on Thursday morning.

Officials say she was found just after 7:30 a.m., and deputies performed CPR and used an AED before an AMR crew and firefighters got there to continue trying to save her life. The inmate was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital, where she later died around 8:45 a.m.

The inmate was 35 years old, and was in custody for outstanding warrants.

Deputies say their initial investigation shows her death could have been a medical issue, but the NYS Attorney General’s Office and NYS Commission of Corrections were notified – which is required by law.

The MCSO Criminal Investigations Section and Internal Affairs will also investigate the death, following agency protocols. The official cause of death will be determined by the Monroe County Medical Examiner.

Deputies did not release the inmates name, and say they need to notify her family first.
