Delta and other airlines waive change fee ahead of winter storm this weekend

 

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Due to the forecasted winter storm this weekend, multiple airlines have suspended fees to change flights.

Delta Air Lines

Delta Air Lines has issued a travel waiver for Eastern North America, including the Frederick Douglass International Airport.

This is in addition to the winter weather waiver issued Wednesday for central and southeastern parts of the U.S. that will be impacted by the storm.

Anyone planning to travel from Saturday, Jan. 24 through Monday, Jan. 29, in select cities in the U.S. can change their bookings with no fees. Visit the Delta Air Lines website here to learn more.

Delta Air lines expects multiple airports to be impacted by the storm this weekend, including Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, Albany, and more. See the full list here.

American Airlines

American Airline customers traveling to, through, or from the Rochester, Buffalo, and various other airports may be eligible for waived changed fees.

If you bought your ticket by Wednesday, Jan. 21, are scheduled to travel Jan. 24-27, and can travel Jan. 22-30, you could be eligible. Learn more on the American Airlines website here.

Southwest Airlines

Southwest flights from Friday, Jan. 23 through Monday, Jan. 26 may be canceled or delayed in various cities, including Buffalo, Rochester, and Albany.

As a result, customers using Southwest to travel during these times can rebook their flights without paying for a change in airfare.

Customers that choose to cancel their trip as a result of canceled or significantly delayed flights also may be eligible for a refund.

JetBlue

As of 10:35 a.m. Thursday, JetBlue expects about 11 cities to experience severe weather, and therefore will waive change and cancelation fees for customers traveling to and from these cities Saturday, Jan. 24 through Monday, Jan. 26.

United Airlines

United Airlines has issued a travel alert for over 35 cities in the Eastern and Southern parts of the U.S. If you’re United flight from Saturday, Jan. 24 through Monday, Jan. 26, is impacted, you can reschedule your trip with no fee.

The new flight must be departing between Wednesday, Jan. 21 through Wednesday, Jan. 28. To see the full list of cities and to learn more, click here.

Weather information

As of Thursday, the Northeast, including Rochester and the Finger Lakes region, is expected to get the most snow Sunday afternoon and evening into Monday morning.
