LYONS, N.Y. — The woman convicted in a double murder in Sodus is in Wayne County Court Friday for a resentencing hearing.
Charlene Childers applied to be re-sentenced under New York’s Domestic Violence Survivors Justice Act, according to the Wayne County District Attorney’s Office.
According to the New York State Bar Association, this law allows prosecutors and defense attorneys to look back at cases where a defendant was a documented victim of abuse.
Childers pleaded guilty to manslaughter and admitted to planning the murder of the father of two of her children. Josh Niles and his fiancee Amber Washburn were shot and killed back in 2018. Childers was sentenced to 28 years in prison.
The shooter was Childers’ husband, Tim Dean, a former police chief in Sunray, Texas. He’s serving life in prison without parole.
