ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The popular musical “Wicked” is returning to Rochester, opening Wednesday at the West Herr Auditorium Theatre.

On Tuesday, News10NBC got an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the production process as crews prepared the stage. The morning was spent working on the ‘air show,’ which involved hanging lights and the ‘Time Dragon’ over the stage.

“It’s organized chaos,” said Steve Quinn, company manager for “Wicked.” “It’s 10 semi-trailer trucks worth of equipment. We loaded out in Pittsburgh on Sunday night. It took about seven hours to get everything out of the building and then transferred here.”

Quinn said this is their fifth time in Rochester, so many locals are familiar to them.

“They said hello when we came in, so they kind of know what’s going on, which is great,” said Quinn.

“Wicked” tells the story of the land of Oz before Dorothy’s arrival and explores the backstories of the Wicked Witch and Glinda the Good Witch.

There will be 16 shows in Rochester running through March 1. Tickets are still available. You can get them online here or at the Auditorium Box Office.

For Thursday’s matinee, there will be free parking and a shuttle service due to this show happening during weekday business hours.
