ALBION, N.Y. — A roof collapse at an apartment on East Bank Street in Albion this past week has continued to affect local businesses. News10NBC’s Declan Stablow reported from the scene, where part of East Bank Street remains closed.
Jon Rissinger, owner of Sew-It-Seams Upholstery, said his old shop is located behind the fencing. The water and electricity inside are shut off, forcing him to find a new location.
“I’ve been shut down since Tuesday, or Monday actually. So I have no income, that’s why I didn’t hesitate to go find another place to rent,” Rissinger said. “At my age 66, moving cabinets and counter tops and tables and so forth it takes a toll on me after a while.”
Rissinger is currently working on moving into his new shop on North Main Street. For the next month, he will be paying two leases simultaneously. He has also had to delay some of his work, marking the first time he has had to turn down jobs.
Rissinger said he is a one-man band at his store, but the community has rallied around him to help with the move.
