RG&E set to hold event Monday to help people enroll in energy assistance

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — RG&E is holding an event on Monday, Oct. 19, to help people enroll in energy assistance programs ahead of the winter season.

It’s happening at the Father Tracy Advocacy Center at 821 North Clinton Ave. from 1 to 4 p.m. Parking is available on-site. RG&E staff will be there to answer questions about applying for the Energy Affordability Program, the Enhanced Energy Affordability Program, and the Home Energy Assistance Program.

What’s the difference between the programs?

EAP enrollment is open year-round and is mainly for people with lower incomes. Customers who currently get assistance through federal public housing, HEAP, SNAP, Supplemental Security Income, or other programs may automatically qualify. You can learn how to apply here.

EEAP is intended for people with moderate incomes who won’t qualify for EAP. The program allows customers to reduce their energy burden by providing credits directly to their energy bills. Learn how to apply here.

HEAP is a federally funded program that helps eligible households cover energy costs. Applications are expected to open on Monday, Nov. 2. You can learn more about who qualifies for HEAP here.
