Artists unveil nature-themed mural at Lyell Avenue library branch

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Public Library’s Lyell Branch hosted local artists on Wednesday for the unveiling of a mural on the building’s western wall.

It’s one of four new murals installed across the Rochester area with funding from a New York State Council on the Arts grant. The grant money went to the local art group WALLTHERAPY, and artists Francheska Diaz and Callisto Daly designed the mural.

The mural aims to celebrate relationships with nature, showing children splashing in a puddle and catching ladybugs. It also shows scenes of family and intergenerational relationships.

Organizers say the mural project also serves as a mentorship opportunity between current youth members of Roc Paint Division and graduates of the program. Here’s where the other three murals have been installed this season:

  • Dutch Creatives’ Collaborative on East Main Street in Rochester (by artist Sarah Rutherford)
  • Rio Tomatlan on Bemis Street in Canandaigua (by artists Justin Suarez & Pamela Carvalho)
  • The Lockstone on North Main Street in Albion (by Artist Justin Suarez)
