ALABAMA, N.Y. — Protesters are calling to cancel a $19 billion project to build one of the largest data centers in the nation in Genesee County.
The Stream Data Centers complex is planned to be built in a field known as the STAMP Park in the town of Alabama. Protesters gathered Monday at Batavia City Hall to oppose the project.
Developers say the project would bring new jobs and increased revenue to the area. But protesters argue the 900,000-square-foot data center would take away valuable farmland for the town.
A public hearing on the project is set for Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Alabama Fire Hall on Judge Road.
