Perinton extends deadline to challenge property assessment by meeting with town staff

PERINTON, N.Y. — The Town of Perinton has extended the deadline for residents who want to meet one-on-one with town staff to challenge their recent property assessments.

Residents have until Friday, April 3, to sign up for a meeting. You can schedule a meeting online here. You can also challenge your assessment by emailing update@perinton.gov or sending the information by mail to the Town of Perinton Assessment Office at 1350 Turk Hill Rd. You can share any information that you think impacts your property’s value that wasn’t considered in the assessment.

As News10NBC has covered, some homeowners have seen their valuations double. However, the Town of Perinton says an assessment increase doesn’t always mean a property tax increase. The assessor’s office doesn’t determine tax rates, and some Perinton homeowners told News10NBC they actually saw tax decreases.

The town says the assessment is supposed to estimate the property’s market value. You can learn more about having an informal review and understanding your assessment letter here.
