LETCHWORTH STATE PARK, N.Y. — Maple Weekend at Letchworth State Park gave people the chance to learn about New York’s maple sugar-making process.

Some of the activities included traditional maple syrup making through stone boiling and boiling in a pot over a fire. Some people tapped a tree themselves.

It gave people the chance to taste pure maple syrup right from the source. This part of the Genesee Valley is the most productive maple area in New York State.

People also enjoyed a pancake breakfast for Maple Weekend. The maple syrup made is for sale in the local nature center.

“We work very hard to put this festival together and it really brings the community out and brings the community together around these sweet treats that most of the year, you kinda take for granted. But, now we get to celebrate the joy in the process of actually making it,” said Conrad Baker, an environmental educator.
