Greece sees lowest crime rates in years, police report reveals

GREECE, N.Y. — A new report from the Greece Police Department showed that 2025 had some of the town’s lowest crime rates in years. The report highlighted a “significant reduction in overall crime” in 2025.

Residents around Greece shared mixed feelings about the drop in crime. One resident said, “It feels good, it feels like they’re definitely trying to keep it there, I don’t see any while I’m out, you kinda see a difference since I first got up here a decade ago.” Another resident added, “I feel pretty safe, I haven’t had any problems or run into anything.”

However, not everyone agreed. One person said, “It feels like the Wild West out here, I don’t even see cops when I’m driving around here, when I do they’re just on the side of the road.”

The Greece Police Department report noted that violent crime was rare with no reported homicides in 2025. It also mentioned increased arrest rates, stating there were more arrests for robberies than robberies reported.

Car theft rates have returned to normal after a spike in 2023, which was partly due to issues with Kias and Hyundais, officials said.

Greece Police Chief Michael Wood addressed concerns from those who still feel unsafe. “When you look at us comparatively to similar size jurisdictions in this state, it’s a very very safe town. It is. And unfortunately, you know, things do happen and, you know, there’s going to be certain notoriety with that. And we just got to do the best we can,” Wood said.

According to the Greece Police Department, property crimes like larcenies make up the largest share of reported crime.
