Bills fans in Henrietta root against Patriots at Super Bowl party

HENRIETTA, N.Y. — Even though the Buffalo Bills weren’t playing in the Super Bowl this year, many local fans gathered to watch the game. News10NBC’s Declan Stablow visited the Shamrock Inn on Jefferson Road to see how the venue prepared for its first Super Bowl watch party since opening a few months ago.

“It’s a lot… We’re getting better with our processes, but we want to make sure that everyone feels welcome,” co-owner Landon Brice said. “We have them prepared for the day just so we can serve them and make sure everyone has a really good time.”

Some attendees opted to watch the game at the bar instead of at home. “I’m not paying for ESPN,” one customer said. “I don’t feel like all the ads, or pirating, so I show up here, watch for free, get to play a little pool and drink a little bit.”

For others, it was about the company. “It’s fun to be out here with family, and it’s fun to watch the game, you know, in a different atmosphere than sitting at home,” Wendy Featherstone said.

Most of the crowd seemed to be cheering for Seattle, not necessarily because they were Seahawks fans. “Patriots, they’ve had their share of Super Bowl wins,” Kara Featherstone said. “You kind of want to root for Darnold. You know he’s been through it.”

“I guess I’m rooting against the Patriots. I’m a Bills fan, so I guess we’re a little bitter,” Edward Sadler added.

However, there was some support for New England. “I hope the Patriots win, you know I’m not a big football guy, but red white and blue right?” Dominick Violante said. Another simply cheered, “Go Patriots!”

The owners emphasized the importance of safety. “This area is not exactly a walkable area to get to, not like East Alexander Street,” co-owner Matthew Collins said. “We always like to work with the patrons and see how they’re getting home and make sure they’re able to pace themselves as well.”

Many attendees agreed that the game would be more exciting if the Bills were in it, hoping for a different outcome next year.
