Irondequoit cancels this year’s Winterfest due to extreme cold for Saturday

IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — There won’t be a Winterfest in Irondequoit this year. The town announced that it has decided to cancel Winterfest due to the dangerous wind chills expected for Saturday.

Winterfest was supposed to take place on Saturday at the town hall campus on Titus Avenue, with activities including a winter market, a horse and wagon ride, food trucks, and a bonfire with marshmallow roasting.

The town says it’s disappointed to cancel the event, but it’s looking forward to bringing it back in full force next year. Here’s the statement on the town’s Facebook page:

“Mother Nature is sure giving us a run for our money, folks! Please know that we made this decision with the safety of all of our residents, neighbors, vendors, partners and staff in mind. We are so very sorry to disappoint, but we look forward to bringing Winterfest back in full force to you next year! Brighter days are on the horizon!”

News10NBC has issued a Yellow Alert for Saturday as we track windchills that could make it feel like -20 degrees outside. We’re also tracking a clipper system that will bring more snow. See our latest forecast here.
