Voting opens to make the Lilac Festival the ‘Best Flower Festival in the USA’

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Do you think the Lilac Festival is the best flower festival in the country? The Rochester tradition has been nominated for USA Today’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice Award.

You can vote for the festival here. People can vote once per day through Monday, March 2. The vote comes ahead of the 128th edition of the festival, which kicks off at Highland Park on Friday, May 8.

The festival runs for 10 days in a row, filling the park with the fragrant scents of lilacs, live music, food, and games. It closes out on Sunday, May 17, which is when the annual Lilac 5K and 10K will take place. You can see what’s been announced of the schedule so far here.

Last year, the festival drew over 500,000 visitors. The festival all started with a local horticulturist, John Dunbar, planting lilacs in Highland Park and thousands of people showing up to see them. It features the most extensive lilac collection in the northeast.
