Police: Stabbing at Greece Ridge stemmed from an argument

GREECE, N.Y. — Chaos erupted at the Mall at Greece Ridge when a confrontation between two 17-year-olds ended with one being stabbed.

According to the Greece Town Supervisor, Jeffery McCann, the suspect was apprehended and is now held at the Children’s Detention Center on a $20,000 cash bail.

McCann praised the quick response from both Wilmorite Security and the Greece Police Department. He emphasized that mall safety remains a top priority despite the incident.

“It’s unfortunate that this happened and again, the mall, it’s still a safe place to go,” McCann said. “The system worked the way it should have,” referencing the suspect being held on a cash bail.

The mall has a parental escort policy that began in June 2024, requiring shoppers under 19 to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. However, according to McCann, enforcing this policy can be challenging due to the mall’s size.

“The malls are one point 4,000,000 square foot property. It’s enormous,” McCann explained.

“They do actually enforce that and have people who are underage leave the mall as a result.” News10NBC’s Adelisa Badzic reached out to Wilmorite, the property owner, to get a better understanding of how the enforcement policy works. They replied with a statement condemning the security team on their “quick response and deescalation of the situation.”

Amorette Miller, the deputy supervisor and Greece councilwoman, shared a statement expressing concern over the incident.

“What happened at the Mall at Greece Ridge is deeply concerning, and my thoughts are with the individual who was injured and with their family. Supervisor McCann is actively working with Wilmorite and the Greece Police Department to review the situation and ensure appropriate safety measures are in place. Our shared priority is safety and reassurance, and the Town of Greece is treating this matter with the utmost care, seriousness, and is responding swiftly. “

Sandra Scarry, moved to Greece from New Jersey. She told News10NBC that she’s heard the Mall at Greece Ridge tends to be dangerous. “Even though I would like to shop there, I guess I would tend to stay away from it if the reputation is it’s dangerous.” Said Scarry.
