SPENCERPORT, N.Y. — The Spencerport School District held an information session Tuesday to discuss the potential purchase of two electric school buses. The meeting took place at the district headquarters where parents gathered to learn more about the district’s plans.

The district outlined its proposal to buy two electric buses and chargers. This move aims to comply with New York State’s electrification mandates, which require every district to have a zero-emissions fleet by 2035.

One major concern raised during the session was whether the cost of the buses and infrastructure would lead to increased tax rates.

“Actually, the infrastructure for these two buses, we can apply for a grant to cover that infrastructure cost,” Leah Brown, president of the Board of Education, said. “So the infrastructure cost of these two buses and the cost of the buses should come to our voters with a zero tax increase.”

In May, the Spencerport community voted against purchasing the electric school buses. The next vote on this matter is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 3, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
