MCSO use drone technology to help rescue person in Honeoye Falls

HONEOYE FALLS, N.Y. — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office shared drone video from a winter rescue in Honeoye Falls Monday.

Deputies say a person from Honeoye Falls became disoriented while chasing her dog who ran off into the woods. They say in response, deputies staged a K9, deployed its Drone Response Team, and worked with firefighters from the Honeoye Falls Fire Department to find the person in under an hour.

The person was evaluated by Honeoye Falls Mendon Volunteer Fire Ambulance and brought back to her home.

On Dec. 4, MCSO opened the Regional Investigative Operations Center (RIOC). News10NBC Investigative Reporter Jennifer Lewke spoke with Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter at the time of the opening. According to Baxter, drone pilots are able to launch and fly drones right from their seats at the center.
