Yellow Alert: Local lake effect snow and bitter cold into Monday night

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Red Alert is now a Yellow Alert for the rest of our Monday as the threat for areawide snow has ended. The areawide heavy snow has moved out and looking ahead some local lake flakes will fly into Monday night with light accumulations. Near Lake Ontario a few fluffy inches are possible with just a dusting to an inch for areas to the south. The wind will pick up a little during the day with gusts 20-30mph into the evening. This will cause some blowing snow and areas of reduced visibility. Be prepared for changeable road conditions, especially near the lake. The increased wind will also bring a drop to the windchill readings. Plan on subzero feel like temps later today into tonight and Tuesday morning.

Harsh winter cold will linger for the rest of the week into next weekend. A few rounds of snow showers and local lake snows will pass by from time to time but for now no big impacts are expected but stay tuned if anything changes. Also keeping an eye on a coastal storm this weekend which appears to be safely to our east and misses Rochester. Stay tuned to News10 for updates on timing of any lake snow and latest on weekend storm threat.
