PITTSFORD, N.Y. — People in Pittsford gathered Wednesday night to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The event was part of the “MLK Living the Dream” series hosted by the Pittsford community at the United Church of Pittsford.
The three-day series aims to celebrate Dr. King’s message beyond the holiday. It began last Wednesday with the Mobile Museum of Tolerance, an immersive and interactive civil rights exhibit.
On Wednesday night, attendees enjoyed a spoken-word performance and poetry slam. The featured speaker emphasized the event’s purpose as a call to action.
“So as we talk about love, as we talk about unity, as we talk about being a beloved community, it is also our charge to make sure that dream becomes a reality,” Shanterra Mitchum said.
The “Living the Dream” series will continue Sunday with an interfaith service at the United Church of Pittsford, bringing together multiple faith communities.
