ONTARIO COUNTY, N.Y. — The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning about a scam targeting residents. Several people in the county reported receiving phone calls from someone pretending to be a deputy.
The caller asked individuals to pay a family member’s bail using cash, credit card, or Venmo, officials said.
The Sheriff’s Office will never ask for payment over the phone, nor will any court, officials said.
Authorities advised residents not to provide personal information or payments if they receive such calls.
