String of car break-ins in Chili leads to chase and several people in custody

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A string of car break-ins in Chili led to a chase on Wednesday morning, which ended on Mount Read Boulevard near I-490 with several people in custody.

News10NBC’s photojournalist saw several sheriff’s office cruisers surrounding an SUV where the chase ended. Deputies say the people inside abandoned the SUV and ran. Two were caught immediately and several others were taken into custody soon after.

Monroe County sheriff’s deputies say it all started with reports of car break-ins at an apartment complex on Union Square Boulevard. Even hours later, deputies were still at the parking lot.

During the chase, which reached nearly 100 miles an hour at times, deputies used spike strips. We’re working to learn if charges have been filed and the latest on the investigation. Check back for updates.
