GENEVA, N.Y. — An Ontario County mother is seeking justice for her son, who she claims was inappropriately touched by James Nunez, the former assistant principal of Geneva High School.

“It was a sexual gesture,” the mother said. The mother, who wishes to remain unidentified, alleges that Nunez not only touched her son with his hands but also put his lips on him.

“He put his lips on my son,” she said. The incident reportedly occurred on Nov. 18, 2025. The mother said her son was in shock after the encounter.

“When he told me, he kind of just froze,” she said. The mother confronted Nunez at the school, where she said he dismissed the behavior as “all in good fun.”

“A man came through the door and just started whispering quietly it was all in good fun,” she said. Following the confrontation, the mother met with the principal and a counselor but felt unsupported.

“I’m mad, I’m upset and I told them I want to call 911,” she said. “I want him to be criminally charged.”

Geneva police arrested 50-year-old Nunez for endangering the welfare of a child and harassment. The mother believes this may not be the first time Nunez has acted inappropriately with a student.

We received emails from multiple parents who claim Nunez did something similar to their child.

“He’s coaxing these kids and scaring these kids,” she said. “They don’t have anyone to turn to when that authority is the one that is abusing.”

The mother met with the school board and a school officer. She wants harsher charges and jail time for Nunez to prevent him from being around children.

“It was a lot of tough conversation but I feel like this school system has failed all these children,” she said. Despite the ordeal, the mother praised her son for speaking up. “Like I told him it doesn’t matter what anybody else says, you’re the hero in this situation,” she said.

Another mother claims her son was inappropriately touched by Nunez last year. She says Geneva Police, the district and school board were all notified but nothing happened.
She told us quote:

“The district should be ashamed of how it has handled the safety and protection of our children. Our students deserve better. Our community deserves better and immediate accountability is long overdue.”

Heather Swanson, director of communications for the Geneva Central School District, said in an email,

“The safety and security of our students remains our top priority, and we will always take swift action whenever we receive information regarding alleged misconduct.”
