ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Fire Department held a holiday fire safety event on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Aenon Baptist Church on Genesee Street. Locals gathered to learn how to keep their homes fire-free and to sign up for smoke detectors.
“It’s extremely important to talk to children, because one, you educate them and they can turn key and educate their families,” said Monroe County Legislator Ricky Frazier. “Two, they know what’s safe and not safe — because again, a lot of fires are started by children accidentally.”
City residents who are deaf or hearing impaired may qualify for a free smoke or carbon monoxide alarm, officials said. Information on hos to get the alarms can be found here.
