911 outage reported across multiple US states, officials say

(Reuters) – Several states in the U.S. are experiencing a 911 outage on Wednesday, including South Dakota, Nevada and parts of Nebraska, according to officials.

The South Dakota Department of Public Safety, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and Douglas County, Nebraska all reported outages to their 911 services.

South Dakota’s Department of Public Safety said efforts were underway to resolve the issue, without disclosing the cause of the outage. The Las Vegas Police Department said there was no estimate for restoration, and asked citizens to dial 911 on a mobile device, so the police can call them back.

Authorities also asked people not to call 911 as a test.
