CANANDAIGUA WOMAN ACCUSED OF STABBING HUSBAND 
59 year old Marinela Catalfamo of Canandaigua is chilling in the Ontario cooler after allegedly assaulting her husband during a domestic tiff, using a kitchen knife.  He had turned away rather than continuing the argument.  Hubby was taken to Thompson Hospital where he was treated and is expected to be okay.

GREECE CNA ADMITS ABUSING SENIOR 
A CNA at a Greece nursing home will be sentenced in July after pleading to attacking an elderly resident.  Groven Glenn admitted throwing a chicken bone and shoving the patient’s wheelchair into a door.  Glenn said the woman had been abusive towards him and he just lost it.

DUFFY TO DISCUSS TAX-FREE SUNY ZONES 
Lt. Governor Bob Duffy will be back home today to discuss the creation of tax-free zones for business which located near SUNY campuses.  Some private college business neighbors would also enjoy the tax-free status which would include sales taxes.  The forum happens at the REOC center in the City.

BROOKS TO GIVE STATE OF COUNTY ADDRESS 
Monroe County Executive Maggie brooks will deliver her State of the County address tonight.  It's scheduled for 7 o'clock at Eastman Business Park.  No word yet on any specific proposals.

SMOKING IN CAR BAN MULLED AGAIN 
Your Always-busy New York State Assembly is floating a proposal which would outlaw smoking in your car…if you have a passenger under 14 aboard.  The idea appears unlikely to make it through the Senate.

ARREST IN LE ROY RAPE 
Charles Johnson has been arrested and charged with predatory sexual assault in connection with a recent break-in and rape of a woman in the Village of Leroy.  Johnson lived near the victim and his DNA was allegedly found at the scene….he’s in the Genesee County lockup without bail.

BROTHERS NABBED ON SEX ABUSE CHARGES 
More perverts in the news….brothers Sean and David Vickers have been arrested on federal child sex abuse charges.  Sean is from Geneva and David from Stanley in Ontario County…they’re suspects in child abuse cases in New York State, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Ontario Canada.  Anyone with information about these two is asked to call their local police.

MT. MORRIS MAN CHARGED WITH CHILD PORN POSSESSION 
57-year-old Patrick Welsh of Mount Morris is facing federal child porn charges, as deputies, acting on a tip from a California child safety group, say they found several illegal images on Welsh’s home PC.  Welsh faces a minimum of 25 years in prison if he’s convicted on all charges.  He was convicted in 2003 of sex abuses against a child.  Read more at Geneseesun.com.

CALEDONIA MAN PLEADS TO CHILD SEX ABUSE 
GeneseeSun.com reports 41-year-old Matthew Symonds of Caledonia pleaded guilty to criminal sex act, admitting to repeated encounters with a minor.  He faces two-and-a-half years in prison.

CITY MAN ARRAIGNED IN 2007 MURDER 
48-year-old Darrell Boyd has been arraigned in connection with a murder in the city back in 2007.  Police say he lit 54-year-old Katherine Lawn’s Merchants Road apartment on fire, in order to cover up her killing.  Boyd has been charged with 2nd-degree murder; the formal arraignment had to wait, while Boyd served a 15-month hitch on unrelated charges.

HONEOYE FALLS TEEN BURNED IN FIRE 
There was a house fire early today on Monroe Street in Honeoye Falls…a teenager in that house received minor burns on his arm while trying to put out that blaze in the attack of the family home.  He was transported to the hospital for treatment….the family of 5 that lived there was not hurt.

HAZMAT CALLED TO RIT APARTMENT
Monroe County hazmat officials say they found nothing suspicious inside an apartment on the RIT campus.  They and the bomb squad were called out last night, after a student became ill shortly after some substance was brought in.  The student is still being treated, and the apartment is being cleaned up, but the building is still open.

SHOOTING VICTIM IDENTIFIED 
17-year-old Paris Bollock identified as the victim of a shooting yesterday afternoon on Danforth Street.  Police say she and another man were standing in front of a home when someone opened fire.  Bollock and her baby are in guarded condition at Strong Hospital.

WOMAN RESCUED FROM PAVILLION HOME 
A woman rescued from her burning Pavilion, Genesee County home late last night.  She’s okay, but the home was extensively damaged.  Several firefighters suffered heat exhaustion.

CITY MAN CONVICTED ON FEDERAL CHARGES 
36-year-old Tabari Facen of Rochester has been convicted of several federal drug and weapons charges.  Prosecutors say a raid produced several illegal guns, along with more than 50 grams of crack cocaine.  Facen faces 15 years in prison at his September sentencing.

WITNESSES: MERKEL/SCERBO DRUNK, HIGH ON ECSTASY 
Testimony continues in the Megan Merkel/ Mark Scerbo manslaughter trial.  Several witness said today the pair drank heavily and snorted ecstasy in the hours prior to the crash that killed Fairport teacher Heather Boyum last July on Route 250 in Penfield.

METRO UNEMPLOYMENT DOWN 
Good news on the unemployment front:  Rochester’s unemployment dropped to 7.2 percent for April, according to state labor department figures released this afternoon.  That’s down from 7.8 percent in March, and under the statewide unemployment rate of 7.8 percent.

GOOD ANNOUNCES SHERIFF RUN 
Wacky county politics:  community activist Emily Good, famous locally for videotaping police 2 years ago, formally announced her Green Party candidacy for county sheriff.  She, however, did not answer any questions from gathered media.

US CENSUS: NYS SCHOOL SPENDING UP 
US Census data released today shows nationwide school spending is down for the first time since the 70’s..but NOT in New York State, where spending per pupil is now up over $19,000, as of 2011.  Amazingly, that’s a 2.5% increase, the 12th highest in the nation.

SCHOOL BUDGET VOTES TODAY 
Polls are open region-wide for voters to weigh in on school budgets until 9 o’clock tonight.  Several districts are looking to bypass the 2 percent tax cap for various projects.

WOMAN KILLED IN CHILI CRASH 
 48-year-old Patricia Kenfield of Chili killed in a crash in Chili last night.  Deputies say she was driving east on Chili Riga Center Road, when her car went off the road went airborne after hitting a ditch, and then struck a tree.  Kenfield died a short time later at Strong Hospital.  Deputies say she was not wearing a seat belt, and that alcohol and excessive speed may have contributed to the accident.

AVON MAN HURT AFTER HIT BY CAR 
David Homer of Avon seriously hurt, after he was hit by a car while walking west on Routes 5 and 20 last night.  Homer is at Strong Hospital; no word yet on his condition.  No charges filed against the driver as of yet.

BICYCLIST INJURED IN COLLISION WITH CAR 
A bicyclist was struck by a car on Emerson Street near Lake Avenue last night.  The rider was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries….neither driver nor rider were ticketed in that mishap.

STATE LAWMAKER TO STEP DOWN
Could we have…effective today….one less lowlife in Albany, perhaps?  Amid mounting pressure from his colleagues and New York Assembly leader Sheldon Silver, the senior citizen pervert known colloquially as Assemblyman Vito Gropez is expected to step down.   Not only is Lopez known for being grabby with female staffers, he has also said publicly he doesn’t see any problem with that.  But don’t expect him to slither off to a senior citizen home for creeps.  It’s widely expected that Gropez will run for New York City Council, where….as a Democrat…it’s likely he’ll win.
