PENFIELD, N.Y. — A woman is calling for action after saying she was assaulted by e-bike riders in Shadow Pines Park.
Wendy Webb, a recent widower, was walking with her friend Lisa Mauro when an e-bike sped past them. Webb yelled at the rider to slow down, and the group stopped.

“And then all of a sudden, my friend who is with me says, ‘Get over.’ And she kind of nudged me over. And this e-bike whizzed by; I yelled, ‘slow the f down!’ And at that time, they all stopped and got off their bikes,” said Webb.
She says the riders – three teen boys, and man and a woman – then approached her.
“She came right up at me and proceeded to tell me that I shouldn’t be telling her son what to do,” Webb said. “At that point, she put her hands right here on my chest, and she was right here yelling, screaming at me.”
The woman then pushed Webb to the ground.
“As I started turning this way, she came full throttle at me, and I flew up in the air and came down on my left side,” Webb said.
After Webb fell, Mauro said the boys grabbed large tree branches.
“They all grabbed thick sticks, like around 3 to 4 inches in diameter,” Mauro said. “What were they going to do with those sticks?”
Webb suffered injuries to her knee, thigh, shoulder, and arm. She now needs physical therapy and has filed a police report with the sheriff’s office. News10NBC is working to obtain a copy of that report.
According to town leaders, while Penfield currently bans motor vehicles like cars and motorcycles on park trails, e-bikes are technically allowed because they use motors to assist pedaling.
“I think that should change because people are reckless on them, obviously,” Webb said. “You can’t have a bike on this path because people are out walking and hiking.”
Webb said the park’s secluded location makes enforcement difficult.
“We probably need more policing,” Webb said. “We probably need more rules here at the park.”
A spokesperson for Penfield said the town is planning to re-evaluate allowing e-bikes on park trails.
