Two adults and child rescued from house fire off North Plymouth Avenue

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Firefighters rescued two adults and a child trapped after a house caught fire on Smith Street off North Plymouth Avenue on Saturday morning.

Crews rescued the people and controlled the fire within five minutes of arriving at the scene, said Rochester Fire Department Lt. Howard Villegas. The fire broke out around 6 a.m., and most of the damage was on the second floor.

No one was injured in the fire. Villegas explained the coordination it takes to rescue people while working to put out flames.

“Safety is always the main priority,” he said. “We try to get to everyone as quickly as possible, but we need to make sure that first we contain the fire, that things aren’t getting out of control. So we coordinate between the companies. Everyone adopts a task, and we work together for the greater effort.”

Crews called for a second alarm during the fire. Villegas says the Red Cross will arrive to help the people displaced. RFD is still investigating the cause of the fire.
