Netanyahu, Biden Discuss Defense as Israel Prepares for Possible Iran, Hezbollah Attacks

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Thursday that it is on “high alert” as Israel braces for potential retaliation following the assassinations of Hezbollah’s military chief, Fuad Shukr, in Beirut and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. The IDF emphasized its preparedness to handle any threats, with IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari stating that Israel is ready for “every scenario.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a call with US President Joe Biden, during which Biden reiterated the United States’ commitment to Israel’s security against all threats from Iran and its proxies. The discussion also covered new US military deployments aimed at countering potential missile and drone attacks.

Reports suggest that Israel is working to finalize the coordination of a regional and international coalition to prevent a retaliatory strike similar to the one led by Iran in April. While Israel has confirmed the killing of Shukr, it has not officially commented on Haniyeh’s assassination, though Hamas, Iran, and their allies have blamed Israel for the attack.

Hagari noted Israel’s recent defensive successes and assured that the IDF was continuously monitoring the situation. He urged civilians to remain vigilant, adding that Israel’s defenses are strong but not infallible.

As tensions rise, Hezbollah has already resumed rocket attacks on Israel, with the latest barrage targeting the Western Galilee. Israel responded with strikes on Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon.
