Kata’ib Hezbollah Threatens US Forces Over Possible Israeli Attack on Iraq
By The Media Line Staff
The Iranian-backed Iraqi Shiite militia Kata’ib Hezbollah threatened on Wednesday to target US forces if Israel carries out attacks on Iraq. Abu Ali al-Askar, a senior security leader within the militia, claimed in a statement that both US and Israeli aircraft have been active in Iraqi airspace, raising concerns of an Israeli attack.
Al-Askar warned that Kata’ib Hezbollah’s response would not only target Israel but also include US military forces in the region. He also called for increased military operations by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, another Shiite group, to further threaten Israel.
Earlier in the day, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility for launching multiple drone and missile strikes on Israeli targets. These actions, which were stated to be in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza and Lebanon, did not specify the locations of the attacks or report any casualties.
Since the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on October 7, 2023, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq has carried out several attacks on both Israeli and US targets in the region, expressing their support for Palestinians in Gaza.
