Serial sex offender sentenced to 27 years in prison

ONTARIO COUNTY, N.Y. — A level three sex offender has been sentenced to 27 years in prison, plus 25 years of post-release supervision, after pleading guilty to three separate felony charges.

Prosecutors say on April 1, Daniel Sevigny, 43, pleaded guilty to raping a 14-year-old girl.

When his case was pending in March, prosecutors say Sevigny asked to be permitted from court due to his mother’s failing health. They say Sevigny then cut his ankle bracelet and fled, and committed another attempted rape during that time, and was later charged with attempted rape in the first degree.

Sevigny was later arrested by law enforcement and held without bail at the Ontario County Jail. While in jail, prosecutors say Sevigny assaulted another inmate and was charged with assault in the second degree. On Wednesday, Sevigny pleaded guilty to both of the new felony charges, in addition to his original rape charge.

Sevigny was already a level three sex offender for previous convictions for sexual abuse, rape, and sodomy. Prosecutors say he is subject to further examination by the Board of Examiners of Sex Offenders.
