LIMA (Reuters) – Peru’s government declared a 30-day state of emergency in the capital Lima on Monday due to a recent crime wave marked by violent incidents including the apparent murder of a popular singer.
President Dina Boluarte also announced on Monday a fresh deployment of soldiers to help combat crime, including the proliferation of extortion rackets.
