ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The countdown is on until the New York State Primary. Early voting starts on Saturday, June 13, to decide which candidates will secure their party’s nomination for the General Election.
All 435 U.S. House seats and 35 U.S. Senate seats are up for grabs in November. So, who’s running against Rep. Joe Morelle in the 25th Congressional District?
Two other Democrats, Robin Wilt and Sherita Traywick, are challenging Morelle in the primary. Whoever wins will face off against Republican Virginia McIntyre. The district encompasses all of Monroe County and part of Ontario County.

Democratic candidates
Rep. Joe Morelle
Morelle has served in the 25th District since 2018, taking over the seat in a special election after Rep. Louise Slaughter’s death. Slaughter served the district for 16 terms. Previously, Morelle served as a Monroe County legislator and New York State legislator. You can see Morelle’s campaign website here.
Robin Wilt
Business owner and former Brighton Town Board member Robin Wilt is vying for the Democratic nomination. She also ran for the seat after Slaughter’s death. Wilt served on the board for seven years, until 2025. She’s a first-generation American. You can see Wilt’s campaign website here.
Sherita Traywick
Sherita Traywick, founder of Young & Gifted Global Ministries, is vying for the Democratic nomination. She announced her candidacy during the annual Martin Luther King Jr. community gathering in Chili. You can see Traywick’s Facebook page here.
Republican Candidate
Virginia McIntyre
Virginia McIntyre, who has served as a Monroe County legislator since 2024, is the only Republican running in the 25th District. The Gates resident announced her candidacy at the Susan B. Anthony House. You can see McIntyre’s campaign website here.
