First Alert Weather: Another cold and flaky day before a nicer weekend and warm up next week

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – More typical Rochester winter weather today as cold northwest flow kicks up some lake effect snow… Accumulations on roads through the morning should not amount to more than 1-2 inches in most spots, but be aware of slick spots and rapidly changing conditions anyways. Lake snow should taper off throughout the day with highs in the mid 20s.

Tomorrow will be still cold and mostly dry but a clipper system comes through overnight, not leaving much in its wake. This weekend will be warmer with both days reaching at or above freezing, with dry weather expected and mostly cloudy skies.

Next week temperatures continue to climb as a pattern shift finally brings warmer air to the eastern half of the U.S. Keep in mind this does not guarantee pleasant weather; in fact there are multiple chances for hazardous mixed precipitation at times next week. Sleet and freezing rain would make road conditions just as bad if not worse than snow would. Not to mention, above freezing days and below freezing nights can lead to black ice forming, especially in colder spots like bridges, overpasses, and shaded areas. It’s too early to say exactly where or when this kind of weather may fall, so make sure to tune in over the next few days for updates.
