BARCELONA (Reuters) – Barcelona’s central Plaça Catalunya train and metro station has reopened after reports of a suspicious object found there turned out to be a false alarm, police said on Tuesday, a day after the same station was evacuated due to a false bomb threat.
“The Tedax (bomb disposal) unit that used a special robot for these situations determines that it was a false alarm. Little by little, normalcy will be restored to the area,” the regional police said on Twitter.
A Catalan police spokesperson told Reuters a security guard had heard a ticking noise in a waste bin and saw protruding cables, prompting the station’s closure in late afternoon.
On Monday, police shut the station at around 5 p.m. (1500 GMT) after they were alerted that an inbound train allegedly carried a bomb. Once officers had searched the train, they concluded there was no danger and allowed services to resume.
