Dion Dawkins honored with key to city of Buffalo for community impact

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Bills offensive lineman Dion Dawkins was presented with a key to the city of Buffalo by acting Buffalo Mayor Chris Scanlon Friday.

The city is recognizing Dawkins for his work off the field, in large part for his work through Dion’s Dreamers, News10NBC’s affiliate in Buffalo reports.

The nonprofit was founded by Dawkins to support youth development, social equity, and community empowerment.

The city told our affiliate that Dawkins has earned respect as “one of the team’s most passionate leaders — known for his energy, toughness, and unwavering love for the city he represents.”

Dawkins is a four-time Pro Bowl selection and three-time Walter Peyton Man of the Year nominee. He was presented the key during a public celebration in Niagara Square Friday night.

As the Bills came to St. John Fisher University for Bills Training Camp in July, News10NBC’s Ian Mills had the chance to speak with Dawkins, who got to enjoy some time with his family during training camp.
