WEBSTER, N.Y. – A Webster native is set to showcase his talents on the new NBC show “On Brand” with Jimmy Fallon. News10NBC spoke with Ryan Winn about his journey to the show.
Winn, who says he didn’t always aspire to be in front of the camera, is now part of the national marketing TV show. He is competing for the attention of brands like Dunkin’ Donuts, Southwest Airlines, Marshall’s, and Pillsbury; and the chance to win $100,000.
“You get a limited amount of time to create a pitch for a campaign,” Winn said. “For example, what I did well on was the Dunkin’ campaign. They wanted a way to package their $6 meal deal to make Dunkin’ the premier breakfast spot for Americans.”
Growing up, Winn planned to play hockey professionally and even attended boarding school for it. However, his path changed after taking a media class.
“[I] started to do social media, numbers started to grow, and it kind of just continued to snowball,” Winn said. “I had at one point about half a million followers on TikTok and kind of started to leverage that into getting different marketing deals with different companies.”
Winn now runs a creative agency in Nashville, Tenn., called Winning Productions, which he has been with for about three years.
Winn credited the support from teachers and coaches in Webster for encouraging him to pursue his current career.
“Just the different teachers and coaches that I’ve had, like, along the way,” Winn said. “I played high school hockey at Schroeder. I had a Coach Broussard, who’s still the head coach there, always being so positive.”
Winn’s journey can followed on new episodes of “On Brand,” premiering on News10NBC on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. and Fridays at 8 p.m.
