BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Buffalo Bills staged a thrilling comeback against the Baltimore Ravens in their final season opener at Highmark Stadium, winning with a field goal as time expired.
Despite the excitement, some fans left the stadium early, missing the dramatic finish.
Dan Zambito, owner of the Boot Room Pub on the city’s east side, said most fans at his pub stayed to watch the game even when the Bills were trailing.
“It was interesting because the people that were there (at the pub), they stayed for the entire game. And, you know, we noticed on the TV that people were leaving the stadium,” said Zambito.
Quarterback Josh Allen addressed the early departures in a postgame interview, saying, “Our team didn’t quit. I mean, I think there’s people that left the stadium. That’s okay. We’ll be fine, but have some faith next time.”
Fans who stayed were rewarded with an unforgettable experience.
“Well, you know, I liken it to, like, a, old Rocky movie where he got beat up in the early rounds,” Bills fan Mark Cavanaugh said. “But he didn’t quit, didn’t throw in the towel, and he kept on coming back and finally won the fight, you know, same thing with the Bills. They won it finally.”
Zambito described the fourth quarter as “bliss” after the team’s turnaround. Cavanaugh emphasized the importance of staying until the end.
“Don’t leave early with the Bills,” he said. “Period. You never know what’s going to happen.”
